The earliest record of the Kung Fu Fan appeared in Jing Dynasty. Those fans were huge and they were used as wind barriers and to block out the sun in ceremonies as a status symbol. In martial arts, the fans were transformed as special weapons to be used in kung fu. Recently the fan was combined with the “Tai Chi”, and was developed into the famous “Tai Chi Fan”. Many have heard the term “Iron Fan” which actually is not a fan made of iron, but is named after the loud opening sound of the fan.

The “Weeping Bride” often resulted from the custom of arranged marriages in ancient times. Brides wept through songs, crying about the helplessness in marriage decisions. The situation was made worse because in ancient times, once the daughters got married, it was difficult to see parents and family again because of the lack of modern transportation conveniences. Deep sadness of separation caused the bride to weep. Over time, the Weeping Bride became a custom during marriages.
This dance shows us the to-be-married-off daughters’ struggling heart and the anguish of their unwilling-to-let-go mother. It also shows us the unknown excitement and fears of separation. This dance also portrays the bride's mother recalling the good times with her daughter while growing up. On her daughter’s wedding day, she can't bear to lose her dearest daughter and is reluctant to let her go.

The music uses a melody to conjure images of the beautiful mountains and waters of Taiwan that have survived the development.
