For past many years, USA table tennis players who
qualified for Olympic were all foreign players. These players were already reached
world class level before they moved to America. As compared to such well-trained
foreign professional players, America borned native players had no chance to
compete with them for Olympic.
However, things may be, just may be going to change
for 2012 London Olympic. Last weekend, USATT (Unite State Table Tennis), the national governing
body for the Olympic sport of table tennis has selected four
young players. Most of them grow up or borned in America and spend most of time
to train in their own country.
Michael Landers, 18 year old, a young New Yorker, who
just qualified for USA Olympic trials that took place in Cary NC last week.
With the help from his coach, coach Ernesto Ebuen (also one of Ethan Jin’s
current coach), Michael Landers beat nine top competitors and lost only two and
finished number one in the trails (see USATT website). It is unbelievable job
well done for both player and coach.
Michael Landers
together with other three qualified US players will represent USA to
compete with four qualified players from Canada. If he can finish top three, he
will go to London.
