On September 22, 2011, at The Retreat at Perimeter Summit 1001 Summit Boulevard • Atlanta, GA 30319, Sandy Springs/Perimeter Chamber of Commerce presented the 2nd annual “Global Gateway” – a bridge for two-way international commerce in the Perimeter region.
There were over 200 people including business leaders, elected officers, local commerce and restaurants participated in this event.
Keynote speaker was Paul Bowers. President & CEO, Georgia Power and his topic is “Global Energy - Today and Tomorrow”. He addressed the importance of the energy policy and is committed to deliver reliable and economic energy source to support the growth of State of Georgia.
The program continued with a panel discussion with four distinguished members:
Legislation - Edward H. Lindsey, Georgia House of Representatives
Education – Tamer Cavusgil, Georgia State University
Transportation – Mike Jacobs, Chairman, MARTA oversight committee
Global Commerce – Ted Woehrie, CMO, Newell Rubbermaid
The panel discussed the importance of infrastructure to the growth of commerce, not only energy, transportation and environment, but also education. A good education system will attract companies and investments in Georgia. Global commerce cannot be taught with just one workshop. It needs to be ongoing mentoring and leadership development, partnering with academic institution and chamber of commerce. Most of all, local business need to step out and visit countries such as China to build relationship and partnership.
The program ended with awards to four recipients for their contribution and leadership in global commerce development.
Sandy Springs formed a sister city relationship with Taicang (太倉), China, a city 30 minutes from Shanghai in 2009.
