Today is the ninth anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. As we take pause to remember all those who lost their lives that day and the many who’ve lost their lives defending our freedom since, let us vow to never forget.

It’s been nine years but we continue to feel the impact of that tragic day. On Tuesday, the body of Lance Cpl. Christopher Blake Rodgers was flown to Atlanta’s Hartsfield Airport and taken home to Griffin. Last week at age 20, Lance Cpl. Rodgers was killed while fighting in Afghanistan. He had committed to join the Marines as an 11 year-old while he watched the events of September 11 unfold on TV.
The response we witnessed on TV this week--the many law enforcement officers who came from all over the state to escort him home, and the countless Georgians who lined the route to Griffin—shows how deeply affected all Georgians are by his service. We are all honored and humbled by his sacrifice.

Today, you won’t see a single ad for my campaign – we’ve taken them off the air.

Elections tend to divide people into groups: red and blue, rural and urban, us and them. But today, let us all vow to honor the service of Lance Cpl.
