免费前列腺癌检查 by Northside Hospital

Despite significant progress over the last decade, prostate cancer remains the most frequently diagnosed cancer in men. To help raise awareness, Northside Hospital is offering free prostate cancer screenings on each of its three campuses. PSA (prostate-specific antigen) blood tests and digital rectal exams will be provided at no charge.

Eligibility:

· Men who have never been diagnosed with prostate cancer and are not currently under a
physician’s care for prostate related problems

· Men 50 years of age or older

· Men 45 years of age if at high risk: African American men or men with a strong family
history of prostate cancer

Registration is required.

PSA test has poor sensitivity and specificity. False positive results of PSA test cause anxiety and lead to unnecessary biopsies and treatments. Participants should know potential benefits and harms of PSA test before receiving it, that is so-called informed-decision making. Regarding to the guideline, USPSTF made that conclusion based on systemic literature review. This guideline was published in 2008. Results of US and European clinical trails were published in 2009. More important is that both trials did not enrolled any men aged 75 or older. Both AUA and ACS support informed-decision making, NOT support screening for men with life expectancy less than 10 years.

The USPSTF recommends against screening for prostate cancer in men age 75 years or older. This recommendation is based on the research done in US and published in Nov. 2009. There was problem with the control group that was screened anyway. The research in Europe was more convinced. The conclusion from that research stated prostate cancer screening saving life. American Urology Association recommended yearly prostate cancer screening. Why not using this free event? It's free! including blood work.
