Asian Pacific American Heritage Month Student Essay Contest:

Submit by Sunday，April 11th 

WE ARE AMERICA: Growing Up Asian Pacific American in the U.S. South

We invite high school students to submit essays which highlight the history, experiences and contributions of Asian Pacific Americans in the U.S. South along with a photograph by Sunday, April 11, 2010. Awards will be distributed on Saturday, May 1st at the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month event at the National Archives at Atlanta.

Awards: The first prize winner will receive a $300 scholarship award; Second prize ($200); and third prize ($100). Students will receive a gift from the National Archives and be photographed with APA leaders. Essays and photographs will be exhibited in a special display at the Asian Pacific American Heritage Month event, printed in the program and exhibited on the website.

Guidelines:

__(a) Essays must be typed and two-pages long, double-spaced and not exceed 750 words

__(b) Complete the application form, include your name, school, and contact information

__(c) Focused on the theme: “We are America: Asian Pacific Americans in the U.S. South” highlighting your personal experience being an APA or an interview of an APA in the U.S. South and your knowledge of APA history

__(d) Essay must include research using National Archives databases

__(e) A photograph of you, of you and your family, or of you with the person(s) you interviewed

__(f) Must submit two signed release forms allowing the National Archives and Research Administration permission to retain and use your essay and photograph for future programming and archives (1-parental form, 2-photograph). If you interviewed another person, they must sign both release forms as well).

__(g) The awards committee will make the final decision on the awardees
