Kennesaw State University’s Asian Studies Program announces a public lecture, to be held at KSU Center, Room 400 on September 22, 2011. Scholars and corporate leaders will discuss the role of China and India in creating opportunities and challenges for the future of global economy and the role of China and India. China and India are the most populous nations in the world, with the world’s two oldest civilizations, and enjoy an average annual 7% GDP growth. Due to their economic similarity and geographic proximity, China and India have been considered as one entity in the concept of CHINDIA. The economic strengths of these two countries are widely considered complementary—China is perceived to be strong in manufacturing and infrastructure while India is perceived to be strong in services and information technology. China is stronger in hardware and physical market while India is stronger in software and financial market. The countries also share certain historical interactions—the spread of Buddhism from India to China and trade on the Silk route are famous examples.
However, there are tremendous geopolitical, cultural, economic and political differences between China and India. This SAUPO Public Lecture invites top executives from multinational corporations, as well as world scholars to discuss and debate on these issues: What are the challenges and opportunities in China and India? What are the areas of competition and cooperation between China and India? What are the similarities/differences in their economic development and impact on the world? What types of foreign direct investment (FDI) and overseas direct investment (ODI) are flown in and out of China and India and how the rest of the world can benefit from it? This public lecture continues the discussion of a star panel from the 2011 SAUPO conference, which is covered by Khabar magazine here: http://www.khabar.com/magazine/around-town/Kennesaw_State_University_and_South_Asians_in_GA
